DRUM DVD's

In terms of value for money I think that the Drummers Collective/Bass Day DVD is fantastic. Some great performances from Gadd, Weckl and Steve Smith. Also an INSANE set from Horacio not to mention a very cool duet with steve smith and Victor Wooten. Extras are cool too. Its almost too much to take in in one sitting.

Shame Vinnie wasn't involved - THAT would have been too much for me to handle!

Can't wait to see the tribute to Gadd DVD with the V-man.

Anyone have the MD festival vid yet? If so what's it like.... I'm guessing its pretty cool.

I have it and dig it. Nick d'Virgilio is fantastic. The young recipient to the MD award, kid of 17 from Nevada, amazing.

Russ used to work at Resurrection Drums in Hallandale, FL. He would hold clinics every once in a while, and I finally decided to attend one. It was Dave Weckl to a tee, down to the color of the Recording Customs. He was great, but kinda high on himself, even way back when (circa '93-94). A solid player whose influence is easily recognizable.

Some good feedback...
I was hoping for a Lang comment, not for the particular style, but the aspect of stick control. But what I really wanted to hear is a comment from Steve Jordan's DVD.

My drumming style has radically changed by trying to focus on looseness and rebound. It gets back to the OLD posts on Dave's new videos that came out with Andy and what he went through with the new grip change. This has led me to a love for funk drumming, tight grooves, and rediscovering the hi-hats. Randy's suggested pop-up & dah-dup excersices have been valuable as well. I've been experimenting with paradidles (inverted, varoius stickings) and 5-7 stroke rolls in musical ways around the kit in effort to develop tasty grooves.

For myself, drum DVD's/Videos are mostly entertainment--I have a "eat the watermelon, spit out the seeds approach." Thomas Lang, Virgil, and the like are mostly pure entertainment. A Steve Jordan/Purdie video I will go over and analyze more closely. I tried this with Garibaldi's, but it was mostly performances over instruction.

PocketPlayer u should really check out Gary Chaffee's books(anything he's written is gold, but for expecifics get "Technique Patterns"), get both videos AW(both ft/Steve Smith/Jonathan Mover)
